Nuvella ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Data: Phone number, email, name, date of birth, gender, photos, bio, location (city or GPS coordinates), and profile preferences.

Quiz Answers: Your responses to compatibility questions and importance ratings.

Usage Data: Swipe activity, match interactions, messages sent/received (metadata only — see Section 5), Tonight mode activity.

Device Data: Device type, OS version, push notification tokens, IP address.

Payment Data: Phone number for mobile money, card last 4 digits (full card data handled by Flutterwave — we never store it).

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and maintain your account
To compute compatibility scores and provide match recommendations
To facilitate communication between matched users
To process subscription payments
To enforce community guidelines and ensure safety
To send notifications about matches, messages, and account activity
To improve our service through aggregated analytics

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

Other Users: Profile information you choose to share (name, photos, bio, quiz-based compatibility score)
Payment Providers: MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, Flutterwave — for processing payments
Law Enforcement: When required by law, including mandatory NCMEC CyberTipline reports for child safety
AI Providers: Anonymized data sent to Claude (Anthropic) or OpenAI for generating icebreakers and bio coaching (Premium users only)

4. Location Data

We collect location to show nearby users in Discovery and Tonight modes. In Tonight mode, your location is approximated to a 500m radius — your exact location is never shown. You can disable location access in your device settings.

5. Chat Encryption

Chat messages are designed to be end-to-end encrypted. The server relays encrypted data it cannot read. Push notifications never include message content.

6. Data Retention

Account data: retained while your account is active
Deleted accounts: data removed within 30 days, except legal compliance records
Chat messages: stored encrypted, deleted on account deletion
Safety evidence: retained as required by law (NCMEC reporting)

7. Your Rights

You may: access your data (via Profile), correct inaccuracies (via Edit Profile), delete your account (via Settings or by contacting support@nuvella.app), and request data export.

8. Children's Privacy

Nuvella is for users 18 and older. We actively scan for underage users and report violations to NCMEC.

9. Security

We use JWT authentication, HTTPS encryption, rate limiting, and hardware-backed secure storage for tokens. Photos are scanned for safety violations before being displayed.
